Wipers, has anyone tried.....?
I have the good ole wipers that work on low and nothing else, I have done some searching and found most people replace the relay, however I found post that they just cleaned the contacts really well and it fixed the problem.
Has anybody here tried just cleaning the contacts?? if so did it work??

Almost all of the 2nd gen's had very poor solder joints on the switches and other electrical components. You might want to take out the switch and check the solder joints on it to make sure there are no cold or open solder joints.
Hope this helps!

it is easier to just replace the relay than to clean it, and less than $15 in parts including shipping.
Also the stock relay tends to overheat with heavy use while the replacement relay from digi-key (digi-key P/N) Z950-ND) is rated at 8 amps rather than the 5 amps of the stock one. I have replaced a couple of the orginal relays now that the original relay caseing was deformed from overheating even with the small aluminum heat sheild still in place.

I had some salvaged 12v relays, so I just soldered some leads on the relay and carried them to the board. The over size relay is held on with tape. (Crude but effective)

http://info.digikey.com/T013/V5Catalog.html Or you can get one from OMRON the maker of the original part like I did, but you can see by ICEMARKS remarks, that it isn't as good a relay.

The relay itself is only about $5.00 but you pay extra for not ordering over $50, and then shipping.
Last time I ordered I got 2 for like $20 including shipping to CA
