Wings are there for a reason: they must provide -just- the right amount of downforce to keep the car in its "proper" place and direction. If you dont have one and you do need, you are in trouble. If you DONT need one, and you have a huge one, then you are a "Ricer"

So, a nice, with the proper design and size, wing is of course needed and beautiful, but only if your car needs it or -at the very least- the wing adds a bit of "sleekness" to your car. Thats about it....

I think this forum requires all wings to be either made by REAMEMIYA or MAZDATRIX, and be under 4" tall, otherwise, rice

Slap on a bookshelf and be prepared to change your name to "Flamed 7".

Do what you want. These guys will call a 1" spoiler rice. It's your car, do what you want with it.

just the simple fact that you called it a wing, to me means that you don't need it, and just want it for looks, so I say "no". a "wing" is a riceboy thing. A functional spoiler is a race car thing.

Someone who actually knows what they are talking about!!! Look at this boys, Barwick is the first person to realize that they are not wings but are spoilers!! Thanx!
I was going to say the same thing. O.K. guys heres the deal. If you want the car to stay on the ground, you get a spoiler. A spoiler puts negative force compared to a wing. The spoiler is made just the opposite of a wing so it makes the car sink instead of fly. A wing is whats on an airplane and should never be used on a car. Now everyone say it at the same time.....spoiler. Keeps your *** where it needs to be.

P.S. If you have a front wheel drive car, and are thinking of adding a spoiler the only effective place to put it it on the hood. seeing as how its for more tracton with the down force it creates. Tell all your friends that have them to do this. We'll tell all the ricers it the new "cool" Thing to do. I don't mean to be an *** just like everything to be called what it is and be in its rightful spot.

sorry i am just being picky, no such thing as negative force, but i think everyone gets the point anyways.

i think a spoiler is only good if it fits the lines of your car and frankly those big double deck aluminum spoilers dont fit anything cept formula and CART. i have seen three spoilers i like on FCs. one was on a yellow car with shaved side moldings (someone has a pic of it), two is the stock one, three is the spoiler that Mazdaspeed7 has on his vert. most of the other ones i have seen, look ridiculous. when purchasing a spoiler you have to look at the aesthetics of it ON THE CAR. not just the spoiler by itself...

It depends. Tasteful spoilers (like our stock ones), look good and can actually be useful.

Huge ones that clearly do nothing but make for an eyesore.... no thanks.

Use good judgement.

RX-7_Driver... replace it with something else.

The only wings I've ever liked on a 7 are the GTU ones. All the others just don't seem to fit the car or they're just too damned big and ugly.

No matter how big of a wing you put on, there will always be a front wheel drive civic with a bigger one.

Well in my Aeronatics book it says negative force. A wing has positive uppward force and a spoiler has negative dowmward force. Its what my aero space science instructor says too. And he was a B52 pilot in vietman. Hes like 52 years old. I just quote what I know.

it all depends on the wing/spoiler.

looks, material, and price.

Yeah dude... negative force makes sense... if ur looking at the y-axis, force up would be positive and force down would be negative.

I'm not usually a fan of larger spoilers but I LOVE the one on the Mariah Mode 6 Wide body cars

Thanks to all of you for your feedback. I actually call them spoilers but when I made this I couldn't think of the word at that time and the only thing that came up was "wing". I am only taking opinions and not orders and just wanted to know what you (all you guys in general) thought looked the best.(On a 1993 R1).

P.S. I want to bitch slap every ricer, especially the ones with civics with spoilers. A bunch of guys in Binghamton go past where I work and throw on the E-Brake and punch it at almost every light, so you should see why I called it a wing as I drew a blank spot in that empty space between my shoulders.

- I personally think spoilers are a must have, just wanted some one else's $0.02

An improperly installed or poorly designed (look in JC Whitney's-eeegch) spoiler can actually generate lift. As I understand it, spoilers function at higher speeds (80mph and up). That's a bad time to be getting lift instead of downforce. Ford had that problem with the Mustang Mach 1. They put a pedestal type spoiler on that car, but it sat at a slight angle. At higher speeds, the car had a tendency to become unstable. Some of the spoilers I see and how they are mounted make them qualify as "wings".

I wonder if the stock Honda spoiler I've got on my '92 Civic generates lift.. that bastard is all floppy at about 100 mph.

i dont mind people putting a wing/spoiler on their 7. but im not putting one on mine. my 87 has no wing on it and never has and i like the simple clean look of it. i dont mind any wing/spoiler on anyone elses car because its not my car. but if i was going to get a wing id prolly get a Yoursports or RMagic wing. more like a whale tale than a wing. looks simple and understated too.

'Verts look with a wing/spoiler on the rear.

Next thing you know you'll have one of those lame Rainbow Coalition stickers on your bumper.
