Question windows motors?

Just wondering how typical is it for the 2nd gen power windows and sunroof motors to go out. I have an 87 gxl and my windows and sunroof move very slow if at all. I was just wondering if there was a good place to purchase these motors?? Also about how much am i looking to spend?? THANK YOU

buy a parts car and switch the window mechanisms to manual. The sunroofs are usually slow or get stuck openning or closing there are different causes for things to break like that but most all the time is because they are old. Try RX7heaven.com I have seen some good parts on that site but never delt with them so do your hoework. Mazdatrix is also a good site for stuff like interior trim and all the small little junk that breaks. Mazdatrix.com

Window and sunroof motors almost never fail... 90% of the time when they are slow it is because the switch contacts are dirty or the tracks are very gummed up.

With the sunroof when they get too gummed up they also will break the cords long before the motors ever fail.

Once again Icemark nails it on the head. These motors NEVER fail. One time I was so sure my motor went out that I bothered to check the switches.

A year and a half later, one day I decided to REALLY check the switches. (Passenger AND Driver switches) A half hour later my passenger window worked again.

I went a YEAR and a HALF without a working passenger window because I didn't belive it was the switch.

Clean those bastards out and you won't ever have a problem with them again.

when i first got my fc the windows moved real slow and almost seemed like they would fail at any moment.....
i sprayed some type of lube on the window tracks it moves great now.....
the motor in my sunroof works, but the actuall roof doesnt move it just clicks....i think it off track or something.....but just spray some lube on the tracks and i bet they move a lot faster.

powdered graphite lube in the tracks is awesome

when i added power windows to mine my passenger side wasn't moving. on disassembly of the motor i found it to be perfect, the wheel that the motor turns had got extremely gunked up with stuff not letting it spin.

cleaned it out and it works great.

BTW just keep in mind if you switch to manual you need different/cheesier door panels.

and for those who justify goin to manual for weight savings, please................you MIGHT save a pound. but i doubt even that much.

good luck, have fun

I said that because manuals are really not going to fail on him. Actually I think that the elecrics are a little lighter than the manuals. My door panels are not cheesy I happen to like them over the ones in the GXL I have in the backyard.
