Where can I buy the plastic trim that lines the bottom of the window on the outside of the door? Mines is all cracked and rusting under it. Thanks
Steve

Trussville Mazda (800-633-8285) has good prices and I think Mazdatrix.com may have them as well. BTW, removing the old ones and installing the new ones is a snap. The old ones can be popped up and out and the new ones are installed in reverse.

Victoria British has a complete catalog with all parts you need, esp trims.

Added: If you mean the outer plastic coating is cracking, you can just scrape it off and paint the metal behind it black. Then you would save your self a couple of bucks. I did it to mine and it looks great.

you could sand them down, primer and spray some underlayment on them (total cost about $15-$20)

If im not mistaken the new oem trim pieces have been fixed my mazda due to the cracking of the plastic. they now offer ones that have a rubber coating on them instead of plastic, which lasts much longer. One of the few good ideas mazda has come up with.

That’s good. But in my opinion I'd rather paint them, for longevity and durability. If they would get damaged again at least you can re-sand and paint.

The new trim pieces are plastic, so don't bother with the old ones. You'll probably find they're rusted through anyway.

You can get the new ones at any Mazda dealer, Mazdatrix, Victoria British, etc. Repainting the old ones will look fine for about a week and then they will start to rust through again.

I didnt know the new trims dont have the plastic cover, I would have bought a new one. But I did a thorough job on mine, so no rusting for a while.

It's not just a cover...The trim is entirely made of plastic. Mazda apparently figured out that they rusted and fixed the part.

Oh ok, I just wasnt clear why you guys keep insisting on buying a new one when painting seemed like a cheaper route.

Here's something that has confused me for a while:

On my last FC, an '88 GXL, the paint pealed off as the steel trim rusted, as normal.

On my current early '86 Sport, 10/85 build, the paint has pealed back by itself to show a brilliant chrome plated trim metal... zero rust. The '88 was definately not like this. Is this another early '86 oddity?

Aaron is right. The replacement ones sold by Mazda are plastic to look after the corrosion problem. Part numbers (R)50-035-B2-3 and (L)50-035-B2-2.

Easy installation after you remove the side mirrors. Think they were about $35 ea. (CDN).

Because of their length, they can get bent during shipping, so make sure you get straight ones. Don't bother trying to repaint the old ones...with new ones you get new rubber and 'felt' liners. Changed them on my T2, and have a set waiting for installation on my GX (CDN).

Correction....part #'s (L) FB01-59-810 (R) FB01-58-810
Previous #'s were 'Location' number off the parts tag.

You don't need to remove the mirrors. I installed both sides without doing that. You can slide the old one out after you pop it up, and slide the new one in before pressing it into place.
