window trim?
Is it called window trim that black piece that goes between the window and metal door. Its got rubber part on it that touches the window. I am looking to replace mine since the paint is all chipping off and doesnt look easy to fix with paint. Anyone know what its called and how much they are?

It's really not that hard to prime/paint it...Pry it up, gently, sand all the rust off (along with what's left of the plastic/rubber crap), give it a good prime to hold the future rust down, and spray...

i used plasti-dip from napa(i think they only sell it at napa)
i sanded mine down good and sprayed on a few coats... works GREAT. no chipping after ~6-8 months.
i probably should have primed it first though:/

Every time this question comes up people immediately jump in and recommend refinishing the part.
Since the whole point of the piece is to seal against the glass and chances are good that if the metal is crapped out, so has the rubber seal...then what's the point.
The parable of the Golden Turd springs to mind.

I was wondering what part of this "refinishing process" addressed that.... Its rather annoying having to manually wipe down one's windows every time theres fog/rain/condensation on the glass......guess its time to pay up

I recently bought new window trim from Mazda. The difference is night and day, as here's a picture from my restoration thread I posted a few weeks ago:
My Mazda dealer charged $56.65 for each piece. As part of the continued stripping of my car, i removed the old ones before doing some body work and with the mirror out of the way, with barely any effort at all the old one was out with a simple pull underneath it with a screwdriver.

came out great, esp if yours are still in good condition.
If you want to purchase new ones, go right ahead. Everyone whos painted/refinished them, are more than happy with them.
