Window switch gremlins (Help!)

Ok, got the passenger side switches all soldered up and heatshrinked. Plugged it back in and went to test it.

The driver side window works fine. I can control the passenger window from the driver side just fine as well. (Up and down goes perfectly.)

However, on the passenger side, the passenger switch will only allow the windows to go up, but it won't go down if I press the switch.

I'm guessing its my switch contacts that need to be cleaned out. Is this so? I just want to make sure because I don't want to "fix it if it ain't broke."

Cleaning the contacts sounds like a really good plan.

Clean them contacts!! My drivers side switch had almost completely stopped working.

Took it apart and cleaned it.. got pass side up and down working, and drivers side down working... but it would not go up.

The metal contact inside the switch for drivers side up somehow formed a ring of plastic.. so it wasnt allowing the switch to touch it. At first I used a solder blob on the end of the metal contact.. then that got all burnt up and crap so I took that off, and heated up an exacto knife and carved away all of the extra plastic, and it's been working great ever since. (which is really good because i have no ac )

Ok guys, the contacts looked good. I used an eraser and some small sandpaper just in case and cleaned them up again. For some reason, I'm still experiencing the same problems.

Any other ideas?

Did you also clean the contacts inside the plug that connects the switch to the wiring harness in the door...?

In the switch.. if you move the contacts does it look like they are making with the thing its uhm.. supposed to contact with? That was my problem, there was a plastic buildup of some sort and it wasnt allowing the contacts to.. "contact" if you know what I mean.

Hmm...didn't bother with that. It looked clean to me but I'll clean them anyways and see how it goes. Thanks.

Yeah, they are contacting it. Didn't see any plastic buildup blocking the contacts though.

I cleaned out the passengers switched. The drivers switch is able to operate both windows perfectly fine.

Do you think the drivers switch could be the reason why the passenger window won't go down even when I press on the passenger switch?

Weither the drivers switch runs the window up and down has nothing to do with weither the problem you are having is with the passengers switch or drivers switch.

Again the passenger's switch gets its power and ground from the driver's switch. If the driver's has a bad contact it can (and 90% of the time does) cause the problem, even though the driver's switch may roll the passenger's window up and down.

Ok, thanks for the info Mark!

I'll clean out the contacts on the driver switch tomorrow and see if that works.
