Window rattle..

Searched and found nothing but a single vague reference... Would window rattling be a symptom of my awful outer window trim? I've checked the screws that hold the glass to the rail and they're nice and tight..

Sound about right?

And if so, where's the best [cheapest] place to order a set of the new style [plastic/rubberized] ones?

Hi Derek. I bet that is a fun sound to listen to when you are driving.
You might try Rock Auto. It sounds like Black Dragon stopped carrying 2nd Gen. parts but might check there too. Mazdatrix may have them also.

Hey Robert! Yea.. It gives you a small cringe as if it were threatening to break ^_-

I must've been pretty tired when I posted this.. I could've sworn it was in 2nd gen Tech. ^_^'

Doesn't look like it's listed on RockAuto.. I'll check with Black Dragon. Mazdatrix does carry them but at a hefty $58.29... o_O

Might try a dealer. IIRC one of my customers got some there for around the same price.
If you would like I can move this to the 2G section...

in all my fcs, the window rattle would vibrate against the outside window trim when I have the window open at certain heights.

its annoying, but its bearable.

Hmm...

I forgot to clarify, on mine it only rattles when it's all the way up.. [Though virtually I never have the windows partway so it might rattle then too]

I don't think the exterior wiper/trim is your problem.
If you want to replace anyway- and why not?- you have other options...see here.

Have you checked your window track mounting bolts for tightness?

Hmm.. I've checked the glass to slider, slider's rail, and the rear.. But if I remember correctly the front/rear tracks don't extend high enough to matter for the full up position.

My other thought was that it could be the felt/rubber guide that's inserted into the door frame tracks.. But I really don't want that to be the case... >_< [having to replace that on both doors is not my idea of fun...]

The rattle's noise seems to be coming from the middle bottom of the window.. The plastic bits in the glass maybe?

Other possibilities: Just too much vibration from: 217K factory bushings+ unknown mileage RB springs/Tokico Blues, FULL RB collected exhaust+FD housings [header-presliencer-catback], only one cup below the passenger side engine mount [forgot both when the engine went in, and the passenger one was vibrating against the subframe]... I do feel like I get a pretty fair bit of vibration through the exhaust - leak maybe?

Thanks for the link there, I'd seen that thread a while ago but forgotten how well it turned out.

I have solid engine mounts and trans mounts lol

So everything does shake quite a bit.
Mind you, before I installed the mounts, the windows never rattled.

UPDATE:
Good news everyone! It was dry out and the passenger window was rattling when I was a bit stressed so I pulled over, pulled off the ancient terrible one and kept driving.... In blissful silence.

I've grabbed the ~140K ones off my project car and I'll report back on whether those make it rattle or not. If it still rattles, it'll be even more incentive for me to replace ALL my suspension rubber. XD
