window problems (relay, fuse???)
Hey guys need some help here. I have a 1988 vert with with power windows and can't seem to get my windows to go down or up. Somebody said it might be the relay and somebody else said he might be the fuse. Does anybody know what i might need. I heard the relays go out of this things often is that true???? When the windows did work they moved pretty slowly so is that a sign it is the relay. Just to make sure the relay is located on the driver side where all the window controls are correct????
Thanks for any help you can give me in advance,
C

Have you tried the passengers side yet???? Download the schematics for the mirrors and windows from the http://www.iluvmyrx7.com. I don't rememvber any relay. Just the switches on the drivers door. Not in a place to look at schematics right now.
Just looked online at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com the 86-88 manual, wiring schematics, and not a relay in site.
First have you tried the passengers side??? Thats the first step. If that side works, the switches in the left hand door are needing repair. The ones on the arm rest.
If both sides do not work, its more than likely the fuse is kaput. See manual for the location of the fuse.

If the passengers is broke then it won't work from the drivers either. take out the switch and clean out the contacts with some emory cloth or an exacto knife. then put back together. It shouldn't take you more than an hour if you haven't done it before. it's a simple switch, that just gets dirty contacts.
the slow window thing is your regulator needing adjustment or some good ol lubrication.

First there is no relay.
Second, the switch contacts are often just worn out or caked up with carbon on a 15 year old car. Have you checked the switchs yet??? from the description (of slow window operation before failure) they are very dirty.
The passengers window failure is often caused by a bad drivers lock switch. Again cleaning the contacts or replacing the switch should solve that problem.
and I am hopeing that you checked the fuse long before posting for help.
