winding sound.....

winding sound.....

the other day i was heading to my g/f house in my fc when im going around 40mph and i hear a winding kinda sound coming from the back my brother was with me and hes into Rx7's and he says you might want to check your rear differential fluid so i get home and i get under the car and this like little metal cover thingy is sliding off does this make it leak cause ive let the car sit and it doesnt leak anything but i dont know it just looks kinda odd to me it doesnt look normal looks like one side is sticking out more than the other neways ne help would help greatly...
