Will taping the clutch sensor down ruin anything on my car?

My friend crashed my car a few days ago, he's a dumbass, and when he crashed his foot wrecked the clutch sensor. Now everytime I go to start my car I have to crawl under the dash and push the sensor down while another person turns the key. I'm wondering if taping the sensor down as a temporary fix will hurt anything while driving?

Thanks!

Cut the wires and splice them together. Don't ever have to push the button or press the clutch when starting. Just make sure you don't start the car in gear haha.

Get a new one from the dealer, it's not that expensive. I think I paid $30ish from Malloy Mazda (forum vendor here)?

Haha I accidentally did that at the gas station today. It's a good thing my sister freaked out and shut the car off!

Don't cut the wires.
Follow them a few inches forward and there's an easily accessible plug to disconnect.
It's a very common Molex style plug, so find a match and bridge the wires, then plug it in.

You've temporarily solved the problem with a perfectly reversible fix.

You often see posts like "the damn PO really butchered the "x" install!", so don't you become the damn PO yourself.

+1.
just disconnect the plug and make a small patch wire with a spade connector on each end,Plug it into the main harness and you can start the car without pushing the clutch.
Dangerous(as in Not really cool to disable a safety feature) but you can do it!

"Dangerous"?
Oh you coddled yoot.
People managed for decades without "safety features" that assume you're a moron.

I have an aversion to eliminating or hacking up safety features (even patronizing ones like this) in the name of saving less than $50

I didn't do it to save money (my switch worked fine), I did it because I didn't like having a failure point between the ignition and the starter for no discernible reason.

I was thinking about disabling my clutch switch.
I have to really stomp on the pedal to start the car.

But then again, its a nice anti theft device lol.
Everybody that drives my car always have trouble starting it because they arent pressing teh pedal hard enough. That, and it will flood once it cranks LOL

lol, I wish you were joking...

Yea, the clutch safety switch is kind of silly.. But then, my manual convert doesn't have one and I [almost] never park in gear..

Old farks and big honkers...could we have more tortured euphemisms?

I didn't know stoners were dying at an alarming rate because of disabled clutch switches.
Or bypassed daylight driving lights.
That somehow became a thing while I was distracted by the vodka tampon expose (which my investigators are still totally working on!).

Have you ever considered that the cars of our parent's age (or possibly your grandparents, if your a sprout) were all manual transmissions and manual steering and manual brakes and terrible iPod interfaces.
The car your Mom learned to drive in would flummux today's average enthusiast.
This is why they are The Greatest Generation.

I can remember when "Consumer Reports" magazine counted as a plus the ability to crank the starter with a car in gear to move a stranded vehicle off the roadway. They thought it a safety measure to be able to crank in gear.
