Hello people. I talked my friend into buying an 87 Turbo II. Guess what? The guy was getting rid of it for 500 bucks! The body is straight...but the inside is kind of shot. The only thing is we cant get it to hold idle. It starts fine.....but cuts out when he lets his foot off the gas. It drives great but at a stop light he has to keep reving it. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

 

check for any vaccum leaks......(old dry rotted hoses) leaky blow off valve. When I think of some more then I post up

yep, I had the same problem when the hose from the turbo to the mass air flow meter was disconnected. Check that first. That's the easiest

 

my car wouldnt hold idle at all, it would just die. all my hoses were ligit, and no engine check light. So I took her to the dealer, problem=blown intake manifold gasket. Price with labor=$761. I said **** you and bought the metal gasket from www.mazdatrix.com as you well know for 25 bucks and had it put in and ready to roar 9 hours later. Now she idles perfect at 750 RPM's
