Will not crank!!!

my 1986 rx7 WILL NOT CRANK!!!

The owner before me let it sit after the clutch master went out, since he has so many cars he just put this one aside and drove the other ones. But it had a recent rebuild before it sat.

I did the following already.

-Drained old gas(looked and smelled fine)&put premium in along with stabil
-oil change/new oil filter
-good compression
-turns over
-spark plugs

It sounds like it wants to turn over but it just won't, is my starter not going fast enough? do i need a bigger battery? please help me!!!!

Thankyou!!!

If its simply not turning over fast enough you probably should charge up your battery, rotary engines require alot of power to startup if they get flooded and if you keep turning over the engine and its not starting chances are that you will flood it out.

If it wont turn over at all then it could be your starter is going bad, you can tap on it with a hammer and see if it turns over, if not it could be your clutch pedal neutral switch, not sure if thats the proper name ...but if this is not connected properly it will cause the cause not to turn over because it will not know the car is in neutral.

Its a switch under the clutch pedal that presses in when the clutch pedal is pressed down all the way, there should be a connector connected to it, maybe it is loose, you can also bypass it but im not too sure on how you do this and dont want to give bad info.

If thats not what it is then im not sure what it could be, check all your fuses under the hood and in the fusebox as well.

possibly flooded. Did you try pulling the injector fuse? cranking it over for about 15 sec. without that in (while gas pedal to the floor). Put it back in and it should start up (you might have to repeat 3-4 times). If that doesnt work it might be battery.
