will not cold start

Stock 87 GXL. starts and runs fine when warmed up, but when cool or cold, will not start. it cranks faster than normal. i can smell that i gets fuel, and i know it gets spark. timing is correct, TPS is adjusted properly. i tried using the LED setup to try and get some trouble codes, but i didnt even get the 3 second light up when you turn the key on. any suggestions on why it wont start when its cold? And yes i did search but found nothing

What do you mean "LED setup"? You shouldn't need any LEDs to get your codes.

Never heard of that one. I just use the stock CEL. Put one end of a length of wire in the single prong female plug (should be green and near the driver side shock tower) and ground the other end. Turn the car to the ON position and the CEl will start blinking the codes. Short flash =1, long flash =10 and there's a 4second pause between codes.

Possible disconnected water thermosensor. IF disconnected it defaults the ECU to 178*F which in turn means the START MAP inside the ECU will deliver not enough fuel.

Once warmed up the engine starts fine because of the ECU defaulting to 178*F, which is normal water temperature.

Could be another thing, but your car has the symptoms of what I just wrote above.

Use the FSM, FUEL SECTION, inputs/outputs section to see IF this is the problem. Meter required.
