This will be my first hard task....I need input.
This will be my first hard task....I need input.
I have a 87 N/A with a shady transmission, old motor, and terrible custom bent exhaust, they cut the duals, and ran one muffler, and split it off to two tail pipes.
anyway, thats what the project, my goal is to buy another 13b motor, and rebuild it, get it streetported, and maybe set it up for a turbo.
Seeing as this will be a first for me, of anything of the sort, i just wanted some input from those who have done this before, not so much the turbo part, just the rebuild.
Thanks in advance guys.

Thanks kontakt, I will research this. Also, I plan on buying a video. The only thing I am concerned with is the overall cost. But obviously this isn't something that I am going to have done tomorrow. I am sure I will figure it out.
mind i ask how do u plan to prep the engine to be turboed?......u cant exactly just slap a turbo on it and expect it to work.........my advice is first fix that exhaust...i did the same thing a few years back and it felt like the car had one of its ***** removed.....free up the exhaust and do a tune up....then drive the car as much as u can....cause when ur ready to come to the dark side....it might not be the same car...
Maybe he means getting all the oil, and coolant lines run. Or he's referring to having things ready for the manifolds to put the turbo on. Maybe he's getting bigger injectors, or a EMS ready. Maybe he wants to run low comp turbo rotors. Maybe (though I doubt it) he's dowelling the motor in anticipation of big HP numbers.
You can't tell someone 'you can't just slap a turbo on it', and not be sure what someone could possibly be doing to prep the engine for a turbo.

ok sorry if im sterotyping abit here.(limited budget)......if hes 18/19 and asking what he should do to his half workin rx7...maybe he should learn how to trouble shoot first.....and slapping on turbo rotors without boost is the worst combination ever, u'll get worse performance than stock not to mention the shitty gas milage to boot. then u gotta putt around town in ur powerless gass guzzler til u get ur bling bling turbo..which im gussin is gonna be 6+ month assuming u pay for ur own gas........might as well fix up the NA motor and learn how to drive the car. .......
whatever, that's a lot to assume. Either way telling someone they don't know what a project involves is nowhere near as productive as telling him about the project. If you inform someone enough about what they are about to undergo, then they can decide if they think they can handle it. Sorry if I'm mostly just ranting, I just get sick of this make everyone feel they're incapable of workin on their cars mentality.
