Will I hit fuel cut with gutted cats only?
Hey, hows it going? I have an '87 TII and the precat had gutted itself before I got it, and I have been wondering if I would need a FCD if I decided to gut the main cat. I have not hit fuel cut, and I don't really want to either. I just got the tranny rebuilt, and I haven't redlined the beast yet. I do plan on straight pipes to replace the shells, but for now, am I safe with the stock restrictive catback? Yeah yeah, its all stock (intake and fuel) so please don't tell me the things gonna blow in a week. Thanks guys.

Don't gut the cats. There are people who would kill to have stock converters, and new ones cost about as much as the car is worth... (some racing rules require 100% STOCK exhausts... aftermarket converters are illegal)

Ok ok, first of all, the precat has already gutted itself, and on the main cat, the catalyst has begun to break apart anyway. SOOO, both are crap, and the main reason for this, besides more power is, I DONT NEED IT. THERE ARE NO EMMISIONS TESTS HERE IN THIS FUCKED UP *** BACKWARDS BLACK HOLE OF A STATE!!!!
Besides, who the **** would be dumb enough to buy factory converters anyway (Yes they do cost about as much as I paid for my TII)???!! There are cheap aftermarket versions out there.
Finally, Im not going racing anyways, and just what sanctioning body requires 100% stock exhausts? Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard!!!!!!!
Please, I just want to hear info and results of an '87 or '88 TII (or series 5 i guess) with GUTTED CATS OR STRAIGHT PIPE WITH NO FCD OR OTHER ENGINE MODS. I have a 88 TII with gutted cats...just shells left..i had a exhaust shop make the pipe the rest of the way back and the put fairly stock mufflers on it. I have not hit fuel cut. Nor do i think you will either. I thin they used 2.75 on the pipe size.
So if you do it i thik you will be ok.

mine would hit 9-10psi like that, but i had an intake. my friend back in the day would hit fuel cut when it was cold out.

I have a stock DP (Jap-import, no pre-cat), straight pipe replacing the cat and a 3" cat-back into twin 2.5". Boost is 7-8psi so I've never hit fuel cut.
Don't waste your time gutting ther cat, replace it with a bit of pipe. This is a quick, cheap job that any exhaust shop can do.

A state may not have emissions laws but it's still a Federal Offense to remove emissions equipment. A shop that does it in a non-emissions state might not get caught but they're just begging for trouble.
