There are many members such as me that have the FD alt.
On a S4 you need to run a new wire from the batt to the alt. On a S5 I think all you need to do wiring wise is swap the wires.
We really need to sticky the FD alt swap forever in this section.
Search in the archives for FD alternator swap. Its been covered 1000000 times.

I just installed a FD alt on my '90 n/a. The wiring is the same....plugs right in. However, the bat wire post on the FD alt is on an extender bridge (black plastic insulator). I removed this extender and connected the bat wire right to the post without the extender. If I hadn't removed it, the extender's post would have grounded out on my UIM (s5). The FD shaft is larger diameter than the fc shaft. You will need a different pulley and spacer as was mentioned above. Not sure where to get one, if anyone knows or if there is a thread I missed, please pass the info along. I modified my original pulley and spacer Ghetto-style until I find the right pulley. Oh and the FD alt is rated at 100 amps vs. the fc's 80.
EDIT: The connector plug on the FD is the same as my '90 s5, but may be different on older year models, I think there's a writeup on that if you search.
