Will 87 TII rear subframe bolt up to an 86 GXL?
Popped the mounting point for the front diff mount.
Called dealer for an informed part number matchup but he said he saw multiple matches and would need VIN to be sure.
This is easier , so does it?

Thx - followup question plz
Will it fit inside the 7 with the hatch closed? Oh and since I'm going to drive the thing ~50mi before I am able to put in the new subframe will I ruin my rear diff mounts and tranny mounts? Things are shifting and grinding when I move.

A subframe broken down will fit. But with everything still attatched, i doubt it.
Are you sure you broke the sub-frame. That is VERY uncommon. You would have to be making massive amount of power and really beating the car down. It's most likely a mount.
What leads you to believe its the sub-frame? is there a clink when you shift?

I was taking off at a light (softly), nor do I ever rag this poor old car. I heard a pop and now putting pressure on the rear end (going forward) causes things to shift around and clunk.
Called around looking for a close mechanic who would lift up the car to take a look (for free). Found one, but was not allowed in the work area to looksee myself. Odd but whatever.
He explained my front diff mount location (btw. I had the rear subframe dropped once a couple of years ago to replace all three diff mounts), that metal bit that juts out, snapped.
I assume I'm putting great pressure on the rear diff and tranny mounts as I've driven a couple of miles since.
Purchased a local bare subframe and I now see what the mechanic must have meant. I assumed that was never supposed to break, especially considering the front diff rubber thing is infamous for clunking and snapping, no?

Ok, I read the rest of your first post this time .
If the tab for the front diff mount is broken, you will be putting extra stress on the rear diff mounts and the bushing/mounts for the transmission. Just shift and accelerate gently to keep the nose of the diff from popping up. It'll behave just like a broken front diff mount. Obviously the sooner you can replace it the better.

You hear a clunk, and buy a replacement subframe? You take it to a mechanic to put it on a lift, and plan on replacing the whole subframe, but you can't get some cheap-o ramps or jackstands and get under there yourself to look?
Get under there and look for yourself, it's not hard. If you broke your front diff mount, you don't necessarily need to remove the subframe to replace it. Many folks loosen the subframe and diff mount nuts, and lower the subframe, which gives enough access to swap out the front diff mount.
