A wideband will be of no help if you don't know how to use it, or have no way of tuning the car (requires a piggyback like the S-AFC or a full standalone EFI system).

Yes, all it does is tell you the Air to Fuel Ratio (AFR) that your motor is burning by sticking a sensor (much like an 02 sensor.... er, it is an o2 sensor) in the exhaust (just like the o2 sensor) very useful for tuning, but for **** unless you have a means of tuning it.

you need some way of adjusting the fuel.. s-afc.. rtek.. engine management system etc.. probably s-afc as mr cake suggested would be an affordable way to do some basic tuning in COMBINATION with the wideband
s-afc adjusts the fuel
wideband is your method of viewing your air fuel ratio
yes as evil aviator said.. the tuner will more often then not have his own means of reading the afr.. his own wideband.. you however have to provide the method to tune.. aka s-afc or the like
