Vinyl paint would work, but I think it may be a waste of money. My mother painted a vinyl kitchen bench with regular Krylon and it has lasted years with people dragging their asses across it and the sunlight beating on it through the windows.

Funny thing today. I was painting this plastiv piece with drylon(white) and droped the plastic clock surround and it broke in 5 places. I painted it anyways and stuck it back in until I can order one from Mazdatrix..

I was searching and found this old post. I am considering painting some of the hard plastic peices on the inside of my car. Was wondering if engine paint would work since its designed for heat. My motor gets hotter than the sunlight. Anyway I painted the metal piece infront of the dash and it hold up well. I even use armorall like stuff on it and it seems fine? Any thought on that?

I dont remember their being any metal peices in front of the dash. But if its holding up then why bother. I painted my components so far with krylon white. My top dash clock piece that broke into 6 pieces and the stereo deck sorround brace thing. That looks cool actually. Next is the rubber stereo suround. I will post pics when Im finished.
