Why why why!?
thats not really the carmakers fault
moral: loosen all bolts before removing any of them
also know what you are unbolting, i almost unbolted my camshaft cover when doing my spark plugs on my saab once

Hah! Try working on a 944. The engine is stuffed in there so tight they had to lube the sides to get it in. Practically anything other than an oil change and you have to take the engine out. I almost laughed the first time I looked at the engine bay of an RX-7... there's more airspace than engine.

The RX-7 has to be one of the easiest cars ever produced to work on...Lots of room in the engine bay, especially when the car is a base model.
The trick to getting the oil pan bolts is to raise the engine an inch or so, then use a universal swivel 10MM socket on the front bolts. A swivel extension won't work as it's too large. To reinstall, thead them in by hand and then use the swivel to tighten to 8 Ft-LBS.

Can I see what the tool looks like? I've raised the engine and I still can't get in there, so i gave up and i'm starting to to tighten them all up once again, so i can drive it, I was planning on just taking it into pineapple racing and having them do it for me, and pick it up on friday or so
I enjoy the easy of working on my FC. My other car is a Toyota Celica All Trac.
Its an 88 with the 2nd gen All Trac motor (3S-GTE, that Toyota also put in MR2-Ts)
This is a pic of my engine bay, with the TMIC removed, bettery relocated to the back and a straight intak installed. And a lot of other stuff off. This was the afternoon of the latest turbo swap, and it was still crammed as hell in there.

If you think an FC is hard to work on I'm sure I could come up with a few bills to take if off your hands
I've done the 300ZX, and I've got a junker 86 cleica, but the stupidest thing I've seen is getting the tranny out of a S10. The instructions from the maual say you have to raise the BODY off the car 6-10 inches to get to the top 2 bolts.

1986 Porsche 911 Targa.
I win. In the Bible it even said that He created the 86 911 Targa to be the bane of man's mechanical existence on the planet. I swear....
Multiple HOURS to change the plugs. I needed TWO different tools in different stages to remove and replace each plug with the motor in.
I don't even want to talk about the oil sending unit I replaced. I still curl into a ball and cry at night thinking about what that car did to me.

I love my 3kgt and all but these rx7's roomy engine bay and easy access areas make this motor a dream to work on.
thread starter: if you "knew what you were doing, you wouldnt be beeyatching in here"
