why is the s5 heavier?

I thought it was by several hundred pounds, but it has lighter rotors.

Doesn't make sense to me??????

Lollerskates. The rotors are light, yes. But they are a small piece in a small engine. Compared to the entire weight of the car, they have no significant effect on weight.

Have you ever sat in an S5 and then sat in an S4? Check out the interior differences. I'm sure the interior is heavier.

I know the control arms are different too. S4 has nice aluminum ones.

I'm sure there is a ton more.

i like the sunroofs, imo it adds some style to the overall design (at least when its open) peace.

On the control arms, I didn't realize they were the same material. I do know that they are non-serviceable on the S5 however. The S4 has replaceable ball-joints.

The S5 also has a larger gas tank by 2 gallons. They added a front spoiler and sideskirts on the TII. The bold items below also add weight (some due to the additional electronics to control them).

Copied from TeamFC3S.org:

SER 4 to SER 5 Turbo Differences
(excludes 10AE)

SER 4 EXT

-lateral trim black
-front is even across the air opening for motor
-front turn single lens’s are orange
-have aero mirrors that are squareish
-fin style rims
-square tail lights
-87 has no spoiler (stock)

SER 4 INT

-quarter round gauges
-87 have back lit warning lights; 88 have symbol/letter lit warning lights
-plastic stereo surround
-center console lid flips back

SER 4 Engine

-pre 87.5 have low impedence injectors; 87.5 and up have high imp, but are still square
-square afm
-has two water fill caps
-twin scroll on turbo with manual wastgate and small wastgate holes
-mechanical oil metering pump
-smaller inlet pipe on intercooler
-lower compression rotors
-heavier flyewheel

SER 4 other
-clutch style LSD

SER 5 EXT
-trim pieces painted to match
-front is recessed across the air opening for motor
-front turn signals are clear with orange bulb
-have areo mirrors but are rounded
-have spoked style rims
-have round tail lights
-fog lights in brake ducts

SER 5 INT

-half round gauges
-rubber stereo surround
-center console opens sideways
-automatic seat belts

SER 5 Engine

-new style injectors with oval connectors

Didn't the S5 body also have some additional structural bracing added?

Also, I think there are fewer S5 models with aluminum hoods. Plus S5 spare tire jacks are heavy steel instead of the fancy German aluminum jacks of S4, and the aluminum spare tire wheel was replaced with a heavier steel one.

This has been covered quite a few times.

S5 has more add on internal structure to support the mouse belts/SRS systems.
Has more copper (wire) to support the additional engine functions and the SRS systems.
Has a bigger gas tank.
Has increased interior insulation.
Has heavier moulded carpeting.
Has heavier accessory parts (such as the S5 has a normal steel jack instead of the uberlichet German sourced jack, that the S4 models came with, and typically have the Steel spare tire rim, instead of the Enki built aluminum light weight spare found on many S4 models and the convertibles).
Has cost cutting steel engine parts (tubing, PD, Etc) instead of the light weight aluminum parts found on the S4
