Why RB True Dual Isn't Smog Legal

Could someone please explain why Racing Beat Road Race setup (and other after market performance exhausts) are not smog legal in states that enforce eCheck legislation. Is there a way to pass the tests? What causes them to fail?
I want the Road Race true dual (header, presilencer, y pipe and mufflers) but Ohio has eCheck. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
Mark

true duals means u run a pipe from each of the rotor exhaust outlets to the mufflers.....if u get 2 cats and ur state isnt **** about noise pollution...i think u can get by with the setup

The reason true duals aren't technically legal pretty much anywhere is simple. If a car comes with an exhaust system that originally meets in a single pipe, it must always have that "type" of system. As no RX7s come with a dual setup (they all "Y") they cannot legally have a true dual setup.

Not that that really matters. I've got a true dual for my car (though it's a tad different then 99% on here).

easiest answer is that a true dual replaces your entire exhaust system and eliminates any and all catalytic converters. to get cats in the mix you'd have to find some skinny *** cats and have a shop weld them in staggered for you, similar to the way the presilencers in the rb true duals are installed.

Thanks guys. So basically all the cat does is lower the % of "bad" exhaust via chemical reaction taking place inside the cat? No easy fix huh. Shhhiiiiiiiiiiit!!

It's just due to emissions, I'm sure most states don't give a damn if you have an airpump as long as you have cats and pass smog. You can also pass with no cats like I did if you're generous.

lol, you mean you bribed the guy? hahaha nice.
I'd probably goto jail if I tried that here..

Yea the cat is strictly an emissions thing, the rotary already has emission issues, so having them is essential if you want to pass the emissions test.

Where I live, there are NO restrictions on emissions whatsoever, I could run straight pipes, with full streetport and a complete emissions cleanout on my car and the cops wouldn't give a damn.

If I'm not mistaken, if you can somehow get receipts saying you spend $300 or more on emissions parts and still fail I think you can be exempt for ever.
My buddy had this happen to his 84 300Z. Or you can register the car in Franklin county. :-)

Thanks Wizz. What's up with Franklin? No emissions? That's interesting.

I hear in California you can apply for a grant for $500 to help get your car through emmissions. But I said f*ck that and paid a guy $150 to pass me.

I'm down with blackplague,... You'd see me on some EyeTeam undercover bribery scam bust. Not to mention I would only try to bribe the guy with $5

That remends me of house inspection in kentucky. From what my parents told me, there was usually a bottle or two of whisky involved in the inspection proccess.
I've never actually had to resort to bribing before. Where I am they either dont care or dont know, usually the later. You have to put my car on a jack to even see if the cat is there. The guy I go to basically makes sure the lights work and thats about it, its great.

In Texas this can happen if you get it inspected and fail. Then you spend at least $300 on emissions repairs and retest and still fail. At this point you have to take it to a different inspection station as mandated by the state. Again they will retest it and verify that it failed. You also need to provide your past 2 failed inspection sheets as well as your receipts for work done. Once verified they will let you pass inspection but only for that year. Next year you have to start the process all over again. That's alot of time, effort, and money here. It is just easier to risk driving without it. If you get pulled over and get a ticket, it'll be cheaper. Of course this only applies to Texas.

Rotarygod is correct, if you spend 300 in repairs and it still fails, than you are exempt for your states emission period. Some states are two years, and others are one.. I'd rather just pay 50 bucks every two years personally..

In California, there is a program called 'CAP' to help you repair you're car if you were "test-only" directed or you have low income. That grant does NOT apply to modified emission systems. LIKE MISSING CATS!
