I had this same problem with my car when I first bought it. My car is an FD, but what would happen is when I would crank my engine over to start the car, it would take 7-10 seconds of cranking before the car actually would start. I thought it was fuel too, but I had my starter rebuilt, and the problem was solved. My started apparently had been old and tired and wasn't giving enough power to start the car fast, even though it still worked

I have tested the starter and it was fine.

Hmm. Testing the TPS. I have seen this done, and I need an Ohm meter. I forgot how to test it. Need to look for that old thread in the archives.

ok i changed the computer, and when i was looking in the engine bay while it was running i noticed spark arcing on the front trailing wire. I made sure it was plugged in and it still did it.

Would this cause it? It was pluuged in fine and you could see it arcing around the plug.

I am going to change the wires tommorow. See if that helps.

Did that clear it up? I've seen that happen on piston engines and cause a miss, could cause some starting problems.

edit: then again i've seen people run their 7's with the trailing plug wires completely off, not under load of course.

ok i am back with this car. It is going to be my little brothers car. I am trying to turn him into a rotorhead from the get go.

guys. It is not a compression issue for sure. It isnt flooded or anything mechanical.

Funny thing is it has killed my tach again. I replaced the trailing coils because the tach died and now it is gone again. U guys think I am getting some sort of short somewhere and not getting enough spark or something. Again I think it is a fuel issue, but any help would be awesome.

Derek

Alright guys, just a few things. I did happen to notice as Argh7 mentioned that if I slightly hit the gas while starting it seems to start better.

I also notice hesitation and a bit of a back fire at around 5.5k revs when at WOT. This is definitely a fuel issue. I wonder if those old fuel lines are bad?

The car sat for years before I did the swap so maybe those old lines are nasty? If that was the case then 100 degree weather would help. I am just trying to go a few more routes with this.
