why omp kills ecu

hi, this happened to me recently and so i d been doing alot of research. I was wondering what causes the electronic omp to die and why it always seems to take out the ecu. And is there anything to prevent this happening again? Both preventing the OMP from dieing and if it were to die, prevent it from taking out the ecu.

i have a jspec s5 by the way.

what breaks is the stepper motor in the OMP which controls the amount of oil flow into the oil injectors. The ECU controls this flow based on its sensors, including the full-range TPS (older fuel injected cars only have a narrow-range tps).

When the ECU detects that the OMP is not functioning correctly, it goes into a failure mode which makes the car run very poorly. That is so you don't drive the car hard without the proper lubrication. The ECU is not actually damaged.

^^^ this is true about the "limp" mode, but I have had a OMP fry my ECU. Search on here, there is a good thread specifically about this.

im not 100% but i belive sometimes when the OMP fails it creates a short circuit on the stepper motors!! which then frys voltage regulators and ect inside the ecu!

Hmm. I never knew they actually fried ECU's sometimes, but clearly an internal short could do that... I don't have an s5.

so if the OMP were to die.. would there be a way to stop the ecu from going? say like making a fuse for the OMP?
