Why oh Why?---> Oil Smells Like Gas
I dont know FD's all that well. I would have told the guy to unplug the charcoal can from the oil fill tube. the gas tank vents to it as dose the oil system. mine got clogged and smelled like gas as did my oil. then as you drive the car pulls the crap in to the purge valve then intake "make it run like crap." see section 4A page 64-65 of the FSM. check this first as its free... then check your AFR, injector spray "should be a mist like a windex bottle not a stream, and/or spark. there should not be that much fuel in the engine to get in to the oil with or with out failing oil and side seals.
rebuilding your engine = wrong conclusion, even if you rebuild it and don't fix the source of the problem it'll probably do the same thing. are you venting your crank case at all?

all that flooding, makes me tend to believe that your Injectors are The source of the Gas problem.Dirty Maybe?.
and a Side note:if the oil was just drained and a new filter put on,then you would still have two quarts of Oil(approximately) left in the cooler that is still contaminated with gas.So really it would Tend to still smell like gas,Only Less than before. It would mix with the fresh oil upon start up.
