Nippon made the old (Japanese built) one. Tennex has been making the current filter since mid 01.

If you still have a dealer that is selling the old Nippon one, he does not sell that many filters.

My personal opinion is that the Nippon one might be better than the Tennex, as when Toyota shifted their USA spec filter production to Tennex, they kept the Lexus line using the Nippondenso (Japanese built) one. If the Tennex was just as good why didn't Toyota spec the Lexus cars to get the Tennex built filters?

On the other hand the Mazda and Toyota filters have consistently been the best filters when compaired to any other in professional testing.
