why is my A/f guage always on the last rich bar???

my car is a 87 GXL and my a/f guage is allways on the last rich bar no matter what RPM... does this have something to do with my 550cc secondaries?? but even at idle and anything b4 or after 5000rpm its in the last rich bar.. could my O2 sensor be bad.. or could this be b/c i am open header

My autometer worked fine. Dont know how accurate it was but it seemed to be working properly.

Where did you hook up your o2 wire from the gauge to? Did you hook it up to the ecu's o2 wire or did you tap into the actual wire coming out of the o2 sensor?

Do I have to hook it up in the ECU's O2 wire? That's what the instructions says but the wire is too short.

as oposed to what? the 02 sensor will be further away then the ecu...

just tap into the wire between the ecu and o2 sensor. anywhere along.

wait I still don't get it. You tap the wire in the engine bay right where the O2 sensor is right?

I have an A/F meter and it is useful for a couple of things (idle mixture, see when you are in closed loop, pretend you are driving KITT, etc.) but they aren't accurate enough for tuning. It isn't the meter that is at fault -- it is that narrow band O2 sensors just aren't accurate anywhere but at 14.7:1. See this page for more details:
http://www.fjoinc.com/automotive/WBO2details.htm

Yes, it is a wideband sensor vendor, but the information is accurate.

A bad ground or a faulty connection might be responsible for the bad readings you get. Or it could be the sensor.

there is a wire that runs from the o2 sensor to the ecu.. it's the same wire. you could tap it anywhere and you would get the exact same reading on the guage...

hell you could put 10 gauges, each 8"s apart alone the whole wire if you really wanted too... and they would all read the same.

BTW.. my O2 sensor was pretty nasty looking when i put it in the header..

also do i need to buy the auto meter wide band o2 sensor?? if so will this ork good with it in place of the stock narrow band one??

the you should probably change it...

I don't even think they make one... it's a sensor and gauge together. they cost $1000+.. you don't buy one, you pay a shop to tune it for you with theirs. but unless you have a s-afc or something you can't tune it. if you are running 550's you should have something to tune them with...

A new O2 sensor? I got a Bosch one at AUtozone for $30.

I tried to install it today, but I still can't find that grey wire!

Anyone wanna tell me exactly which one to put it in?

BTW I took the pic from your site Scott 89t2.

thanks
