why is my alt belt slipping

the alt. is all the way at the top of its adjustment arm and i still have slippage at hi rpm. is it because there are no other belts ( i removed the airpump, a/c, and p/s)? should i get a smaller belt or sumthin?

you will need a double belt pulley for the alt..but that is so the waterpum does not slip.
As far as the alt slipping - are you using the correct size belt? Or did you plus size it by one?

The fan is probably what's slipping.
Without the air pump belt, the alternator belt only has a short contact sector on the fan pulley.

There are two solutions:
1) a double belt pulley on the alternator.
2) a short belt fitted directly from the excentric shaft pulley to the fan pulley.

you mean dual alt pulleys. For dual alt belts, you just buy two belts.
You can get the pulleys from a few various sources.
Higgi selles them (search on his name),
Banzaitoyota sells them, (search on his name)
I think www.rx7.com sells them,
and so does mazdaracing.

There are a few more, but I cant remember off the top of my head.

lots of places. the cheapest I have seen is banzaitoyota you can pm on this board. he charges like 20 bucks for one then you just need an extra oem belt from anywhere like napa or autozone or whereever. Im going to get that from him.

BTW: you want both belts to be the exact same length & width.

I had to both at the same time - same manufacturer, same part #, & same batch (the other number on the belt.

good advice. one manufactuer may have them just a little longer plus the original may be stretched or worn out more. REplace at the same time and get two identical ones
