Unhappy WHY GOD, WHY????? - Engine leaking oil...

How's your day going? today i got to work and my engine was leaking oil like a sieve... I haven't had a chance to put it up on the jacks, but what can it be? There are oil seals that run along the sides of the rotors, right? And if it's oil getting everywhere, it probably means the engine isn't dead, right? (As in, i should be able to rebuild it, right?) How much does a seal kit cost? where can i purchase a complete seal kit at? and PLEASE tell me that mazdatrix apex seal kit is inaccuratly priced at $840!!!! blah.. . I don't think i was ever meant to own cars.....

Where is it leaking from? You don't need a rebuild unless your oil control rings are shot in which case your motor would be smoking like a ****.

It looks like most of it is coming from the rear of the engine, as it's dripping onto the exhaust..
I think most of the smoke was coming from it dripping on the exhaust.. it didn't look like any was actually coming OUT of the exhaust.. . I'm hoping that the seal around the oil pan is shot, and it's more or less squirting out of there, does that make sense?

UMMM>... if oil is all over the ground it's probably an external leak.

= no rebuild neccessary, just find the leak.

check your oil cooler hoses, oil pressure sensor, oil fill cap tube, oil check tube and OIL PAN/GASKET

the dowel pin o rings are on the driver side but they would not flood the area all at once ,just a guess check the oil pressure sending unit below the oil filter also see if the oil filter is tight . the high price seal kit may be for apex and side seals plus all o rings ,I do not know with out checking only a guess.

leak from rear of the engine could mean rear main seal also. PITA to fix but much cheaper than rebuild.

Your most likely leaks are the oil filter housing o-rings and your oil cooler lines.

update: dammit... i'm stupid I didn't even realize how far back the oil was... in fact, it was coming oujt of the REAR OF THE TRANSMISSION... man... i guess i just jumped to conclusions, since i only had about 1 minute to look at it in the driveway at work, and i guess heated gear oil doesn't smell like new oil (that fresh, fat-kid-in-gym-class smell)... so t/w i'll have a new rear oil seal on the way hopefully this fixes it.
