why get an fc?

im an fb owner, thinking about getting an fc. what are the differences in driving habits and all that. i would just like something different and something that's easier to make more power out of(more aftermarket parts)...i luv my first gen but i want to move up ya know(i already know i can do an engine swap but i dont think i want to, not because im lazy tho)

An FB with an S5 13b swap is probably more badass and fun to drive an an S5 GXL/GTU. I'd stick with the FB and do a swap, 13B + suspension = badass FB. Of course if you wanted a car more refined then get an FC, but who daily drives a project car anyway ( ) lol.

This is a good ? I have owned many FB's and FC's. It really jsut depends. The first gen was a better built car with less probs. The FC is A little more modern and does handle better and is somwehat faster.

My t2 is the funnest rx-7 i have ever owned, but i love a good clean first gen too because they are jsut classy.

But a first gen with a T2swap is one baddass car and not tp be played with.

the steering is the most noticable difference. no more slop from the recirculating ball setup. Though there are way more problems to watch out for, electrical grimlins/solder joints mostly. my 84 SE was way faster than this 86, but i didn't buy the fc to be a speed demon.

Sounds to me like you need to buy a Turbo II. I would keep the FB and swap in a T2 motor if I could, but if you dont want to do that then you definitely need to get a T2. Dont skimp out and get an N/A FC unless you have a thing for the N/A power because I pretty much guarantee you will want more power than what the N/A can provide.

Either T2 swap in an FB if you are up for it or just buy a GOOD CONDITION T2, unless you find some rediculous deal on a fixer-upper. Turbo II's can have a bunch of electrcial problems, with either the body or the EFI stuff. I would budget 3 or 4 thousand for one, maybe more if its a really clean one off autotrader. There are a bunch of cheapass FC owners who will say you are overpaying, but if it's truly a good car you aren't.

As far as the differences in driving, well a Turbo II is 400lbs heavier than an FB but it has the best feeling power steering system I've ever experienced on a car--way better than an FD.

havent had the chance to drive an fb yet, but side by side the fc looks more modern and will handle alot better due to suspension differences.

fc's will get you laid.

RACK AND PINION STEERING!
IRS REAR END!

Like everyone else said, the suspension is a bit more modern.
No Watts linkage and live rear axles...

If you haven't been in a big turbo'd 13BT, you dunno what you're missing in the power department.

I have an FB as well as an FC TurboII... In most cases id say I prefer driving my FB because its lighter and it feels faster, even though Im sure its not because at the moment its not running at 100%. FB's to me drive more like gokarts because they are small and light. Of course mine isnt exactly stock either. Of course once I get my T2 built how I like Im sure my tone will change, but for now Id have to say I like my FB more.

If you wanna stay FB, just do a nice carb swap, RB streetport exhaust, streetport the 12A and throw some other small stuff on it and your pretty quick. Faster than a stock T2 in most cases

Ha, you made a thread about it boog. Him and I were debating if we wanted to a t2 swap or s5n/a swap. I'm deciding to rebuild my 12a.

I'd like to disagree with the 1st gen being a better built car with less problems. At least the FC was built with parts just for the FC and not, like the FB, assembled out of random parts from other Mazda cars.

yes the FC was built for the FC, but it has more problems simply because it is more complicated (EFI)

just get an FC since you already have an FB. then after that, get an FD.
once that's all done, consider yourself as a die-hard RX-7 fan!
