Why is factory boost guage reading low?
Why is factory boost guage reading low?
I'm still boosting ok - I haven't noticed anything slower about the car, but I'm wondering if there's something I can check. I don't know where to look to see if it's a hose or what.
The guage does move when I step on it - but it doesn't go over "0". It'll move from the minus area up to the zero area but won't go into the + range (0-45 reading on dial)
I don't feel anything wrong - it just bugs me and I'd like to know if it's something I can fix...
thanks.

Had a similar problem with my guage. Take the instrument panel out, remove the turbo gauge (don't lose any of the 143 little screws that you have to take off to get at it) - you'll see its on its own little circuit board, resolder the connections and re-install. Worked for me, YMMV.

Before anybody rips out or starts ignoring a 'non-working' stock guage remember that it is attached to your boost sensor and sees the same signal that your ECU sees. If its the sensor that's bad (hence the low reading on the guage) your ECU will not compensate for boost (fuel and timing) - people have blown engines when boosting with failed boost sensors.

Get your digital meter out and get on pin 2B of the ECU and start the car. Remove the vac line to the pressure sensor. The voltage should read 2.3 to 2.7v. Go for a ride and you'll see something like 3.5 volts on full throttle and when you let off something like .7v. If it is'nt yo yoing like that, its busted.Pin 2B is on the center connector, all the way to the right on the plug as you view it connected, and its the bottom wire. 2A is just above it. They are lettered just like that from right to left until you get to the end which is 2P.

Yes its for the boost sensor(pressure sensor, whatever they want to call it). This info is for a 87-88. I do not have the diagram for newer models. For some reason I do not know what model you have.
OOps. I see you have a 90 model. The plugs are different on it. I'll bet somebody has a manual and can tell us what the pin number is on a 90 model ECU for the boost sensor(pressure sensor).
