Great, I just read a week old thread...
Anyway, it was still funny... I get a kick out of people that think drag racing is so simple. Mash the gas a go baby, that's all there is to it. A monkey can do it...
uhhhh, no. I spent 5 years working at a drag strip and have been to several auto-x races too. Bottom line, they are different. So whenever someone tells you that you can't compare V8 torque to a rotary torque because it's comparing apples to oranges -- tell them you can't compare the 2 sports either. Said many times in above thread, but different strokes . . .
Bottom line, until you drag race more than a couple of times, you really have no idea how complicated it can be. I've seen a Geo Metro stomp the crap out of Camaros, RX7s, Hondas, Corvettes, etc. week after week after week. I don't think that the Metro was made for straight line performance, but I could be wrong. Maybe that was the second thing on the list after the 80MPG 3 cylinder engine. Oh btw, this is an unmodified Metro that I'm talking about...
Anyway, sorry for contributing to a dead thread, just thought it was funny.

Auto shows, road race, car audio, auto-x, drag, taking your kid to day care...
Who cares? It's it all about doing whatever gives YOU the thrill. You cannot say one is better. There may be some guy that just likes to watch the headlights go up and down all day. He only starts the car to charge the battery. If that is thrilling to him, then for him that is what the car is best suited to do.
What was the car really designed to do? Looks, drag, torque, road race,...
No, no, and no. The car was only designed to make Mazda a lot of money.

NO, it was designed to road race, then toned down to make mazda lots of money. Remember, most engineers do not have marketing degrees, so smart companies let them go for it, then tell them they've over done it. It's the only way to build a marketable product.
