why does my n/a smoke at start up?
every time I start my car, it puffs out this light blue smoke. I know it is oil, I can smell it. the smell continues while I am driving until it is close to normal operating temp. I know they burn oil for the seals but I didn't think it was this much. is there a problem?

The rotary burns oil constantly. Normaly you dont see or smell it, but under certain circumstances you can....nothing to worry about, unless your car eats A LOT of oil...

I only get white smoke in my 91 if it sits a while, like more than 48 hours. Watch your oil level very carefully. If it goes low very quickly, time for a rebuild. If it drops slowly, and it will drop, then you are ok. I suspect that the oil seals may be going. Better start running 1/4 ounce of premix oil per every gallon of fuel, just in case the oil injection system is going out. That should save you from a blown engine.

First you need to examine a few essentials. check for any fault codes. If none are found then next is to examine how it runs when first started, and once warmed up. Then if thats all ok, you need to check you throttle position sensor for proper adjustment. Make sure your Pressure sensor is good. Check for a leaky injector ,,,Especially if its running poorly at the first start of the day..... If you have good compression you will loose THAT real quick if you keep running it with fuel in your oil assuming thats the case....GOOD LUCK MAN
