The rotary engine does not like to be pushed when cold. The different combination of metals used in the engine need to be warmed up properly before being pushed or you will risk damage to the engine itself. I usually let the car run for at least 3-5 minutes before driving off, and then do not push the rpm's until normal operating temperature is achieved.

I usually only warm that much before heading to work during this cold weather. Heater works alittle faster that way. Also not a good idea to start the engine and then turn it off within the first minute or so.

Modern fuel injected engines are subjected to much less wear and tear with cold starts than were the older carbureted types. The reason is the injected engine's fuel is precisely metered when the engine is cold. Older engines used a choke and dumped way too much fuel into the manifold when cold. This is why an injected recip. engine of today will easily last 300,000 miles or more compared to 100,000 miles or so on an older carbed recip.
The previous post was right on. Simply allow the oil pressure to stabilize before driving away and keep the engine RPM below 3,500 or so until it warms up.
