Exclamation Why does my car idle at 1500?

I had to make a kinda long trip in my car the other day, (2 hrs) and it ran fine and everything but when I got off the interstate it would idle at 1500 rpm instead of the usual 750-800. I thought it would stop but it hasnt. It still runs good, but it just idles high and its annoying. Any thoughts?
Oh yeah, its a 1988 turbo II.

my car did the exact same thing before it blew up. go get a compression check, my mechanic said it usually means that there is low compressions in either one rotor or both. in my case i had 1.9 in one rotor and 5.0 in the other. it also could mean your cats are clogged.

Thanks for all the help guys, but the problem was actually very simple.
I followed the throttle cable to that little box on the passenger side under the hood, where the cable hooks up to the whateveritscalled that rotates when you push the gas, and there was a small biece of broken plastic stuck just so the throttle could not go down all the way.
I was worried that my engine was gonna blow too, since it has 110,000 miles on it.
It runs great again now though. :bigthumb"
Thanks again!
