Exclamation Why does my car do this? I need a guru

My car will be running just fine and then all of a sudden it will jump about 200 rpms and run super rough. Now here's the kicker, it will also at the same time not before or after, start losing tranny fluid on the exhaust and put off enough white smoke to be on fire. I have no clue what this could be it's a non- turbo 86' with automatic transmission.

Talking

Hello. On most automatic transmissons, there is whats called a modulator valve. It is hooked up to the engine via a vacuum line coming from the modulator on the transmisson. This modulator sometimes goes bad and lets transmission fluid go into the engine. Now, I have not looked at an automatic off of a RX7, but I would assume that they have one these too. Check for a line coming from the transmisson and going to a vacuum on the engine. Pull it off and check for fluid. If you find some, then there is your problem.
Hope this helps.

Hello. Nope, didn't change my nick. I am kinda new though, to the board that is.:p
I read a a lot on the forum although I only post when I need something or have advice from my 37 years on this ole rock.
Glad to meet another rotary fan. I have liked and enjoyed the rotary since I was a child and had a working rotary model engine. It had working lights that lit at every revolution. I only wished I still had it.
But oh well.
I am now in the process of fixing up a 2nd gen. It is pretty decent for the age and I have been doing a fews things to it here and there. I have replaced all brakes and rebuilt the calipers, new rotors, new carpet (I love eBay), new demister grilles, new shifter bushings, 6-ports cleaned and ATF treatment, purchased a new sunroof to replace the aftermarket that someone before me put in it (ARGH!!) and many more things to do before its finished. I am also in the process of completely stripping down a base 87 and redoing it from the ground up (going to take a while)
Nice talking to you and thanks for the rating!

ZoomZoomZoom,

oooh... very nice. I've been doing a minor restore and repairing some underbody broken parts as well. Every time I see all those minor rust spots I want to strip it down to the frame as well

Right now 100% of money is going into getting stuff from Japan, such as rx7magazine and hyperrev's rx7 parts books etc.. I've also got that sweet cold air box & fresh air headlight intake from mariahmotorsports.com in California and a cooling panel from Aerodyne Industries.

Been looking for that OEM glass moonroof for a while now as well, but that's not stocked in ANY country though

Hey glad you picked up that carpket kit from ebay. It was half way reasonable. Also check out rx7 stuff from victoria british, mazdatrix, and of course OEM from the dealership if you haven't already.

Bit the bullet and got a 100% OEM new rear hatch luggage cover. Worth every penny

Working on a miata cupholder mod (glad I picked up a spare arm rest) and I've got some more bodykit pics I'll be uploading tonight as well from some new rx7magazines.

I'm trying to get the best parts and accessories first (stuff that's getting rare) before tackeling a 100% restore or performance mods.

Glad your on the forum. Keep us uptodate as you progress on your restore.
