Why Do People Take Out The A/C?
I still have it on my GTU but on my T2 it's gone. A/C becomes a big pain in the *** when you are building your car for serious performance, especially when it comes to cooling. It would be nice to have it but for a car that I only drive to haul *** it's not worth the trouble.
I resent the comment made about Canadians. I'll have you know it has gotten to 45 degrees C (113F) in the shade where I'm from. It reaches above 100 F every summer and is consistently above 90 most days in the summer. So yes, we get summer too up here, we don't all live in Igloos you know.
I don't have AC, I don't think the car came with it though.

mine came without, i bought one and put it back in.
Cars black, i put a black interior in... live in the desert..
had to modify the ac bracket to make it work with my relocated oil filter. But trust me it's worth it. I m shooting for 320 reliable horses on stock turbo. Will be upgrading to a big turbo in the near future.... and keeping the ac.

For those complaining about power loss, the A/C system comes with an amazing little device that allows you to TURN IF OFF. Amazingly, when it's off it doesn’t draw any power. Isn't that clever? What will they think of next?
And if you the power draw is really that much of a bother to you, you obviously need more power. Or a turbo...

mine didnt work so i took it out.i got used to having no AC since my 240s ac was broken so i dont mind being warm now and then. if it worked i would have kept it, but after wasting $75 or so on trying to recharge/fix the 240 and it not working, i decided to keep my money this time.

You're half right, MPLSrx7. Our original systems used R12 (freon I believe) which they don't make (or at least sell to the general public) anymore, so unless you can find someone that has an old canister of it lying around, you can't recharge it with the original evaporant- and if you can, expect to pay out the *** for it. Our systems can be converted to R134, but as I understand it to do it right, you have to replace the better part of the A/C system- though you can I believe just put the adapter fittings on and recharge it without doing anything else, but its much more prone to failure. They do make some 'R-12 replacement' kits, but I have no idea how well they work.
I pulled the A/C out of mine when I swapped engines, and pulled out the P/S while I was at it. It's a 'vert though, so I don't figure I'll miss it that much- and I already do my best on my DD to not use the A/C because it kills its power & lowers the mpg.
