Why Do People Take Out The A/C?

So I did some searching and I came back with little results, it just kept showing me threads where 'AC' was mentioned. So I decided to make a post, as I havn't seen one asking this question.

So, why do a lot of people take out their A/C in their FC's?

Simplicity
airflow to radiator
space
weight reduction,
most of our ACs don't work anyway

So uhh how do you stay cool? Just roll the windows down? I figured it was about the weight or something else.

Like most said, weight and simplicity. That said, I highly doubt the weight difference wont matter in reality. THAT said, I live in Phoenix, so no AC isnt much of an option for me lol

Less weight+ lots of stickers = mucho grande horsepower and fast fast fast fast cars.

And it is usually about this point in a thread that someone from Canada chimes in and says that real men don't need A/C, they just roll down the windows...

I live in Georgia, and I really can't imagine no A/C, I mean it gets reallllly hot in my car sometimes. But if most can live without A/C here than I guess it can't be bad haha.

I swapped my steel hood with an aluminum one before re-painting the car.

I saved as much weight as having removed the AC.

The Air Conditioning is the #2 priority in my car (after the engine). Florida gets hot and not having AC because you could not be arsed to fix it is GHETTO

Usually it goes as follows: Weight, MPG (using it eats gas), and usually HP suffers while it's engaged. so... depending on what you use your 7 for you might keep it you might not. personal preference i think is what it comes down to.

+1 on weight

Those of you complaining about driving a car without AC obviously have never ridden a motorcycle in traffic on a hot day in full gear... it makes driving a car without AC seem luxurious, at least theres no radiator fan blowing hot air all over you.

AC just wastes gas as well when in use and when it's not in use it's just more crap to lug around town in your car.

I can see MPG being a factor if you owned a Prius or something but comeon....how can the fractional loss from AC be a concern in an egregious guzzler like the RX?

+1 I don't even use A'C in my DD after riding my bike with full gear.

My 91 rex came with no A/C and I don't plan to install any... I guess I am hardcore.

Doesn't wind resistance hurt MPG too? I guess A/C hurts it more, or else people wouldn't use that as an excuse. I'm sure I could live with just the sunroof open, maybe bring a little spray fan with me hahaha.

I live in Winter Haven, Florida and I took my a/c and power steering off in the middle of springish-summer. I guess I am harder x core since I exercise my arms while sitting in my sauna.

I did it so I could mount my alternator over there (side mount alternator). Less engine bay clutter=COOL. ; )

I dont know y you guys from the mid west are sayin it gets to hot when here in La it gets hot as ***** in the winter haha then the summer is like AZ. I have a a/c but I never use it...it takes power, and you use more gas...I keep it in there just because, to say I have it cuz most people dont lol. I think I'm gonna be taking it out because I'm going fd intake's t/b and fmic...also I'm gonna get a fb p/s bracket to move everything down It has been stated.....weight, power, room for fmic, dosnt work all thoes are good reasons.

I still have mine in my t2. It doesn't work in my sport, so I'll probably end up removing it, unless I install that black interior...

Ive had enough of getting out of my car and looking like I stepped out of a pool. I plan on keeping A/C and run 400hp. Some people say you cant or shouldnt do it but man sitting in rush hour traffic with no a/c... screw that.
