Why did weight increase from 86-88 base model?

I remember seeing official weight #s for the 86 and 88 base....the 88 base weighed more than the 86. I was wondering why that is since they're both s4 models.

the 88 base model was the SE, which was equipped much more like a 86-87.5 Luxury coupe.

Remember the base model RX-7 in 86-87.5 had manual mirrors, no storage bins, power steering was an option, many came with tiny steel wheels.

Two different models with two different set of options.

Were the power mirrors an option on the 86-87.5 Base? Or were they just mostly manual? Cause I'm pretty sure mines a base, but has power mirrors, sunroof, phone dial 14's, and smaller brakes/swaybar.

power mirror they were an option on the base, but there were two "base models" the true base , then a luxury base. ( not to be confused with a GXL)

the "luxury coupe" base model had the options for power mirror, sun roof, AC, rear seats, and fone dial rims, but it was still a 4 lug model, ( note it had no option for power steer or power windows, only moving up to the 5 lug models, could you get those options...)

your car is a "luxury coupe", which is still often called a "base model" or also called a se often....

I have to diagree with one point. My pre-87.5 (87), with phone dials, back seats, manual mirrors, sunroof and ac, also has power steering.

power mirrors are found on a Luxury coupe and a SE, but not a true base... sure that you don't have a luxury coupe as they are often confused with the base model since they too came with 4 lug wheels/brakes.

Really the only difference in a Luxury coupe and a Base is that the Luxury coupe has a tint band at the top of the windsheild, and has power mirrors.

I have an 86 Base that came with power windows, sunroof, no storage bins, and a blue tint windshield, with the original dealer papers to prove, it says 86 Base RX-7

Ah, no... perhaps you are confusing base with the base features listed on the Moroney or someone has modified your car.

Do you have a Monroney to post???
