why am i fouling out spark plugs?

how often do you turbo guys go through spark plugs? i just got a damn set (first new ones since rebuild) saturday and they are fouled out monday night... i am premixing 16oz per tank, would that have anything to do with it?

i cant afford to replace spark plugs every week......................

I would think you'd have an A/F gauge by now, lol...

cuz your runnin so damn rich, flame boy! lol might be time for some sort of ignition amp. it helped me with my problems. also, isn't 16oz too much. for some reason i was thinking 4 oz per tank of mmo is what a lot of guys run. but then again, i love my omp

good luck jaker

i didnt have this problem on my jspec and it was essentially the same block...
will an ignition amp really help? and how much do they cost? everything works fine if i wirebrush the spark plugs, then a day or two later it'll start hesitating and misfiring again

maybe i just need a new leading coil pack?

Because you have a brand new motor...read Kevin's site, plugs will foul regularly unless the compression was pretty high to begin with. Take them out, clean them and re-install.

well the compression is over 100 now (about 110) and i got these plugs like 2 days ago. i just wire brushed all four: the trailings look pretty much new now and the leadings are lookin pretty bad.

Get to your ECU & put a meter on the O2 sensor input & see what you get, if she's running at like .8 to 1v all the time (even when cruising), then you've got some problems. If you've got 0v, then you may have found your problem, lol...All of your sensors out there have to be working together & sending good inputs to have her running the way she's supposed to, so while you're down there, check 'em all, one at a time, during drives, and compare 'em to the charts in the FSM fuel section...This is always a good idea after ripping everything apart & putting it back together anyway

And, as we keep telling you, it's a REBUILD, lol...

it has 1200 miles on it wayne and yes, i have reason the believe my o2 sensor is dead cause its seen some race gas action from when i had my jspec :x

how much richer would a dead o2 sensor cause me to run?

Richer than normal during cruise, because the ECU wouldn't allow closed loop function without a good O2 sensor input. I'm telling you, it's not hard to check this stuff at all, and you learn a lot reading out your sensors from the ECU...

Bosch p/n 12054 (I think that's it)- less than $30, direct plug & play for my S4 NA (don't know about your setup, though). Although I wouldn't blame an O2 sensor alone for what you're seeing, if it's as bad as you say...

Oh, 1200 miles already? Have you noticed the idle "settling in" at all over time?

I think you'll find that your problem lies with the Walbro... a lot of guys complain about running rich after installing a wlabro, don't thhink the stock FPR can handle it.

well yeah the idle did smooth out real nice, but its a medium size streetport so it wont idle perfectly at 750, i had to bump it up to 900 or so to get it real smooth. i also dont have any of the emissions stuff or a BAC so alot of things affect the idle. but after installing my radiator yesterday and the spark plugs thing the idle seems to be rough (especially under 1000rpms), i guess i created a vacuum leak somewhere yesterday.
can the TPS setting really screw up an idle that bad? cause i'm sure its way out of whack.

When you adjusted the idle did you adjust the TPS at the same time? An out of spec TPS can cause a wacky, surging idle.

The stock fpr will only decrease fuel pressure by a fixed amount so if the fuel pump output pressure is higher, you are dumping more fuel. It does not take much to blacken the plugs at idle. Btw, why are you thinking of getting new plugs? What's wrong with cleaning up the existing ones?

"The spark plugs are currently all 9's. Anything hotter results in short lived plugs, and a loss in power." i saw this posted by mazdaspeed7 (adam) in the forsale section somewhere. do the 9's last longer than the 7's?

also, no i have no adjusted the TPS since i got the car from kevin (1200 miles ago) so i'm guessing this could be the cause of my random hesitations too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
