Whose done a J-Spec S5-TII Swap?

Here's the deal. I can score a J-Spec S5-TII (longblock) and transmission for a decent price, but had a few questions regarding it. I've done a bit of reading, and it's my understanding that something about the fuel system is the opposite of a US TII motor, correct? If any of you guys with experience could explain this a little bit better, I would appreciate it.

Also, when I do this swap I do NOT plan on fiddling with the stock harness or ECU. The plans as of now are to go with a Haltech E8, and make my own harness. Just wondering, out of those of you who have done this as well, what other sensors you've had to use? IIRC most people use a 3 bar GM map sensor... which can be bought directly from Haltech, along with an intake air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, idle speed control motor, etc. Will the stock sensors be sufficient for all of this? All are in spec on the car this work will be going into. I'm estimating this project will run somewhere between ~3-3500 USD. I can get the ECU for ~1000, the motor and tranny for $1400 shipped, and miscellaneous stuff has somewhat been accounted for in that estimate.

Are there any major issues you've all encountered when going about this? Any unexpected things happen? I'm basically asking for a heads up on what I'm getting myself into (I've got a decent idea of the work I'm going to have to do). I checked out the wiring schematic for the E8, and it doesn't look difficult.

Thanks in advance for the heads up/ tips & tricks you guys have to offer. I did a search in the haltech forum, and a quick search in the 2nd gen tech section on similar topics, and found a little bit of information, but not a whole lot, which is why I decided to start a thread on it.

PS: This will be going into an S4 NA chassis, and I plan to run 10 psi for a while once I get her completely together, then bump it to 12, then move on to a BNR hybrid setup with a FMIC some time down the road...

All you have to do for the fuel system is switch up the fuel hoses... the incoming and return hoses are reversed.

The wiring is on the opposite side of the engine, thats your major problem. mY friend is doin a jdm s5 swap.

That just means you can't use the JDM harness without modifying (lengthening) it.

Which doesn't really matter at all if you're using a Haltech...

well when i got my jap engine my fuel rails where diffrent than us.my engine came with solid fuel rail vac head-the us ones come with the plastic. the lower intake doesnt have the thermowax flange like the us one.huum a few other small things that i cant remember. but if you get that engine invest on a ECU it will be alot simpler that runing the stock wire harnest and chase down glitches,you will eliminate alot of stuff that can make your life hell..

also if your going from a s4 to s5,you are going to have to:

(a) use the s4 front cover and s4 mechanical omp on ur s5 block or

(b) the easier route, keep the s5 front plate and eliminate the s5 electrical omp and use premix gas instead.

unless theirs some way to control the s5 electrical omp with the Haltech E8

this is basically exactly what i did, its pretty straightforward. im using stock coolant temp sensor, and i think a Gm air temp sensor, friend gave it to me i forget what it is. however, im pretty sure you can use the stock one. wiring it is pretty straightforward. the fuel lines are pretty self explanatory, i didnt have any problems with them. i dont remember anything being backwards, but ive never worked on a usdm s5 tII engine so idk. sounds like you have a pretty good plan going, my only advice would be to just rebuild it now, or atleast budget for one in the near future. i had mine fully installed just to discover i had a sliced coolant seal and needed a rebuild.

What I'm trying to do is get all necessary equipment I need to do the install, THEN get the motor. The company I'm ordering it from has a 30 day warranty, so if I'd be able to get everything prepped (in terms of the ECU, fuel delivery, etc) as much as possible, then I should hopefully be able to straight install the motor and tranny, get them both running. If she blows white smoke, or doesn't start, I'm going to use that warranty to my advantage, know what I mean?

I just bought my Haltech E8 (~2 hours ago) so the stock wiring and ecu should not be a problem.

i love how everyone answers about wiring differences...he said he is going haltech, nobody reads this **** at all.

The only thing I can say is you will spend a lot more money when its all said and done, and also don't listen to what people say on here its always negative. I bought a car and did a TII swap and I did about 10 different things that people said I couldn't.

dude when you get the engine get a compression tester get a tranny and a starter and you can take the compresion before yo install it...the only thing that may not be visible is a blown cooler seals..

my engine gave me 110psi on each rotor..so i know thats good
