There is about a thousand threads on this topic. Yes you can change them yourself but be ready for a good fight. You can order a new drive shaft from Mazdatrix for about $285 I think. You can go to a driveshaft shop and have one made for about the same price.
Don't remember the place off hand but you can buy the U-Joints for about $50.00
