who would you put cash on?

ok guys i have thios buddy of mine who has an 88 mrs s/c. He want's to race me, well i too want to race him! I have an 86 gxl which is streetported, cone filter, straight pipe exhaust, rb header, no catz and my 5th and 6th ports are wired open (lack of Backpressure)> Who do you think will win?
I'm not too sure on the outcome! His mr2 stock has 145hp and 140 tp at around 4000rpm. He's also about 200 lbs lighter i think!
Who would you put money on?

no, thats what i thought tho! I did my homework and looked at the mr2 mkI website and thats what it said! 0-60 times in 6.2 sec and 1320 at 15.6 sec. So im not too sure. My motor is brand new and i haven't even raced anybody yet. It seem's faster than it wasa befor but only some competition will tell!

Yeah, an 88 MR2 SC 1/4 mile time ranges from 15.3 - 15.7 depending where you get the info, so mid 15's.

They have 145 (or is it 146) hp stock, but in Japan there is a "late model" 4agze which makes 165 hp stock.

If your friend has some extra cash, he should rip off the SC and put in a nice T3/T4 turbocharger.
The 4agze internals are easily safe over 20 psi (most people say 24-25 psi being limit), and some argue if the stock pistons are just as strong as aftermarket ones.
The stock wiring harness and ECU is good up to 15psi with no modifications or piggy back or anything.
Just take off the SC, put on a Turbo, boost up to 15psi, and weeeee!
It's not uncomman to hear of stock engined 4agze's with turbos over 400 rwhp.

I think you can beat his MR2 though as long as he is stock and you are a decent driver. You should be faster than mid 15's with the modifications you listed.
He's going to jump you off the line though, for years after the SC MR2's came out, they had the record for fastest 0-30mph time, even faster than an F1 car.

he is right, mid engined cars launch like *****'s.

I am assuming the MR2 is stock? If so, I bet you nose him. A good running, NA with your mods will be in the low 15's, mabey if everything is perfect a 14.99.

just go line 'em up and let us know what happends.

I'm not so sure what people normally pull in those cars in reality(not mag times), so its hard to say really. But don't let everyone get your hopes up too high. NAs are hard to get into the 14s, very hard. I haven't seen one person show a time slip of one yet(though many have estimated their time to be in the high 14s). I'd be happy with a low 15 with your mods. You have an edge if his engine is not fresh though.

You also have to consider, his car is supercharged. Hes going to have power on tap very quickly. Also, your ports are wired open, so your going to be a little boggy in low rpms.

so you guys think i have a chance! Right on, he's been talking all this **** about how my car is slow and his is super fast and all that ****. I do know that he has a cold air intake, thats ALL! You guys think i can make it into the low 15's. I wasn't trying to get my hopes up and was hoping just to get into the 15's!
I do see one little problem with my car that i didn't have befor, when i had my old motor! When im driving down the hi-way and im in 4th gear i used to be going 120km but now im only going around 110km! Do you guy's have any idea of what my problem might be? My next mods are going to be TB mod (when i get up enough nerve to do it), bigger injectors, S-afc for fine tuning, and later on maybe a 150 shot of nos! Then i know i'll smoke him!
