took my waterpump off and drained the coolant in my never-ending quest to get things out of the way and take the front cover off, to access the evil needle bearing from hell.

from what i gathered in the haynes manual and the racing beat downpipe/presilencer install directions: S4's dont use the air pump for the 5th/6th ports, only S5's do. racing beat TELLS you to remove the air pump and ACV when installing their dp/ps on an S4 (86-88). the airpump for S4's is used to pump air into the cat for emissions if i remember correctly, or the ACV does it. either way the air pump and ACV work together. correct me if im wrong, but it's useless on an S4 from what i've read on here and the manuals. and if i'm wrong, too bad for me, my engine bay looks amazing with all that **** out and the car runs great. get exhaust first, then remove it. the block off plate came with my racing beat presilencer and downpipe set. you can find block off plates on ebay and i think icemark sells them.
add charcoal canister and double throttle diaphram to the list of items gone =p vigorous FC slim fast diet owns!

I'll be taking off my A/C system tomorrow......I never use it anyway and it does weigh too much. But I also will replace my oil pressure sensor unit tomorrow, and with the A/C gone it should be a lot easier to get to. Who needs A/C in Monterey County, California?

Fixed overheat problem
Pulled my radiator fan and removed the bi-metal strip that controls it, popped the actuator button a couple good ones then reinstalled bi-metal and put the fan back on. Since then haven't gone above 1/3 on temp gauge even when pushing the car hard going up any of the local mountain roads with the AC on. Most of the time even when going 100mph temp gauge now stays at 1/8.

There is no day when I don't "mess" with my car...
Several things that you might want to check though:
Your AFM is on a rather severe angle. This might effect the reading. You want it as close to horizontal as possible.
You have the most god-aweful "filter" out there. The HKS unit is truly terrible. Foam filters are great for lawnmowers, but very poor for cars. They let the finer dust through, and there have been reports of little chunks of foam coming off and being injested by the engine.
Regarding the placement of your filter, you need to run a water bypass on your intake tube. If you ever accidentally go through a deep puddle, you're going to suck massive amounts of water into the engine. The result will be a stalled car, and a ruined day as you need to get soaked pushing it out of the puddle, then spend the rest of the day drying out the engine and getting it started again.

thats what i said...
anyways, i started the throttle body mod and gave up because:
1) the damn throttle plates screws wont come off
2)the 3K rpm bog isnt good for mash throttle drifitng.
