Who can figure out this electrical problem for me?

I've been searching but I havent found the answer so I thought I would ask.
ok, 1 month before I bought my RX-7 I went to go check it out and everything worked fine, the power windows and guage/interior lights, after when I went to go pick it up none of these things worked. The car wasent touched by anyone since I last looked at it. Now the windows and dash lights dont work so at night time I cant see anything or put down my windows.. but the cabin lights DO work aswell as things like the blinkers, idiot pannel lights. ect.
I checked the fuses, none of them were blown. I even put a 10AMP fuse into the power windows socket and it blew when I hit the switch so there is power going through it.
I cant figure this out, and I would like to be able to see my guages at night time!!

its all about schematics and diagrams. some people have this stuff memorized, most of us need manuals.

what size fuse is normally in the power window's socket?

does your passenger window work from its switch?

30AMP
and Nope, the switch on the passenger side also dosent work, I thought it was a dirty switch at first, but with both not working it's definatly a power issue.

It sounds like everything that runs off ACC power isn't working... If you jiggle the key in the ignition, does it start working? I had a similar problem in my s5 GTU and it was related to the ignition switch not sending out ACC (Accessory power). Sunroof won't open, blower motor won't work, nothing.

same prob with my 88 vert, nothing will work, if i turn the key off and back on, everything works again....
i thought it was a ground issue, but it makes more sense that it is the acc feed from the key

ahh but you see, all that stuff works, my HVAC controls work, the fan does, same as the sunroof, cabin lights (the lights on the doors wont work, just on the roof) it's just that the lights in my hvac controls, or my guage cluster or any buttons in the car that are supposed to light up at night when I have the lights on do not work. BUT if I use the turn signals or brights those lights in the guage cluster do work.
so at night, the interior is totaly dark and I cant see how fast I'm going or what RPM I'm at.
and yes, all the lights on my idiot pannel do work (except for the clock but I'm sure thats caused by bad soldering joints)
I should also mension that the stock radio has been removed. Will this cause a problem?

Removing the stereo should NOT cause an issue unless one of the wires was shorting out and blowing the fuse in the fuse box. I'd double check fuses. Anything happen that caused this to start happening?

If the parking lights are working, but gauge lights are not; you have a bad headlight switch (as covered in the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this section!!!!!).

If the parking lights are not working as well as the dash lights it is probably either a blown fuse or again the headlight switch.

Either way, the power windows have nothing to do with the parking and interior dash lights and you have two different problems.

I looked through that faq twice and swear I did not see it, BUT I did already think of the switch and I will be picking up a newer one today, I'll try that, I really hope it works, night + dark dash = scarry.
as for my window problem.. today I'm going to rip out the switches, bust out the voltage meter and go to town.. I know it's going to be something simple, and I'm going to spend the next week trying to trace it down

Window sw schematic 1987 model. Maybe put a new fuse in and try JUST the passenger side and see if the fuse blows or not.

I now have the same problem. For a while the tail lights wouldnt work but the dash lights would. Now that i took the light switch out and cleaned the back of the PCB, the tail lights work but the dash lights work. Deffinitly the switch. Anyone know where i can get one for under 100?

ok guy's I got it all figured out, I just took apart the switch, cleaned it good and now it works fine.
As for the guage lights, it was the switch, I got a new one this afternoon and swapped it out. Now it works fine!

He took out the window switch and cleaned it. I did this, (not too hard) you just have to be careful not to lose the small parts (spring, etc)
