white smoke

white smoke

Ok, so I let my 87 turboii sit for a few days

when i went to start it, it wouldnt start (the cranking sounded really weird)

anyways, somehow my mom got it started and it billowed enourmous clouds of white smoke (it smelled a little acrid, like burnt rubber, so i dont think its a coolant leak)

the smoke dissappeared after the car ran for about 30 seconds, and it drove fine, all the way up to redline


do you know what is causing this?

Whit smoke is usaully COOLANT. Black smoke is gas. Check the plugs after it sits for a day or two. Something is getting into the motor. My bet is coolant.

She could've started it using starter fluid. That'll cause a fair amount of white smoke.

no she just cranked it a while and i think she messed with the gas pedal

at first i thought it was a coolant leak, too, but its smoke from coolant supposed to be sweet smelling?

Flooded. If you've ever seen a two-stroke motorcycle exhaust it's white, so a burning mixture of gas and oil can produce white smoke as well.

White smoke on start up doesnt always mean a coolant leak. Have your coolant system pressure tested.


How is your compression?

to be perfectly honest, i just got the car 3 weeks ago and havnt gotten a tune up yet

im pretty sure i have a vacuum leak and a high idle

Also check the TPS. Might be far enough off to **** up. But fix the vac leak first. Also might be leaking injectors.

i've had billows of white smoke come from my car....

excess gas causes white smoke too....
