white sludge at top of oil filler?

while messing with cat ect today i pulled the dip stick and it smelt kinda like gas (is that normal?) well after that i unscrewed teh cap to the filler and there was a slimey white slugde around the rim that i do not recall being there before... is this possible the reason for the smoke?

White in oil is not a good sign. Most of the times it means coolant. How many miles on the car? Could be rebuild time.

Or it means that you did an emissions removal and you have the place where the pcv used to go venting into the atmosphere. When you do this, condensation builds in the oil fill neck and and makes the nasty sludge.

You said smoke, white smoke after warm up= coolant, blue smoke= oil. If you are not premixing then you have blown seals. Do a compression test.

its a whiteish - gray smoke, but its instant and its bellowing from rusted cats that turn red hot and drip burnt **** and cold liquid but when i first started the car it smoked then cleared... but the next time i started it i noticed the cats getting hot so i turned it off... since then i have not been able to force myself to leave the car on because of burnt smell and cats

A healthy rotary has about 100psi (check this with the check valve removed from your gauge), make certain that you get constant pumps on the gauge. If you have one pump low, that is usually a sign of apex probs. With the check valve in your gauge, look for 125psi.

good luck,

Not necisaraly. White sludge is normal. All oils have a air/water content. When they reach higher temps of operation these cemicals seperate. Just what they do. Exspechaly over counter oils as they contain detergants. It is quit normal operation to get some white sluge build up in the filler neck. As well when water heats up ir turns to steam and rises. Well the highest point is your filler neck and dip stick. When it cools the water/oil/air mixture tends to linger around and turn to a white film.

The gas smell I dont know but not a good sign. Would probly indicate sid seals on way out.

Blue smoke that smells like oil on start up or even worse all the time?
Dont freek out if it puffs a few times on start that can be said to be normal rotary operation. But excesiv is not.

If your coolant seals are warn what happs when the car sits over night the oil seeps past these seals and into the combushtion chamber. When you crank her up it burns this oil off. This is normal ware but if it gets to bad will require a rebuild.

see i started the engine (it was flooded and sat for over a year) and it smoked bad enough to the point where i stood in the driveway and couldn't see my car, but it cleared, now everytime i start it right off the bat the same thing happens, but i noticed cats getting red hot so i dont risk letting it warm up enough to see if the smoke will clear... could old (2 year old) gas be causing any problems

The gas smell is probably from flooding.. When my injectors leaked, my oil would reak of fuel whenever I changed it.

It's a 14-18 year old car, what do expect? I hope you weren't looking for new car reliability. Most of the people on here bought these cars for their uniqueness and excellent performance potential.

i know it was gonna need some work... and i understand the uniqueness of the car, there are very little 7's in this area, thats why i saved the car, had it been any other circumstances i would not have purchased the car

short story, ricers got ahold of car, stirpped paint and primed it, ripped whole interior out
Plans: they where going to Paint it purple and put yellow neons + yellow interior in it
i could not stand to know that was happening so i bough the car from the kids dad before he could start, ive already fallen in love with it, but im sad that i may have to rebuild the engine already, with only 70,000 i was hoping to get another 20,000 at least before rebuild
