whered my clutch go?????

ok so im driving around yesterday and my clutch started to feel a lil soft, has always felt soft but now it was getting real soft and i slowly started to have trouble puttin it into gear, then i totally lost all clutch pressure and i couldnt get it into anygear, i realize why i cant get it into gear beause the clutch isnt holding pressure and its like trying to switch gears without even pressing on the clutch. it jst started to snow like hell right now so ill take a look at it later in the week, so im guessing bad slave cylinder right??? has anyone else had this problem? can u tell me whats all involved in getting this fixed??? please help

check clutch cyl, look for leaks? if there are its most likely seals are old and cracked, al you need to if this is the case is to replace the unit with a new one, if it doesnt seem to be leaking around the cyl, check all lines that go to the cyl, they may be ruptured. -alex

How old is your clutch? It does sound like a bad slave cylinder which are not too hard to replace.

if your having any weather like us, your clutch fluid is probabily as thick as tar, and your lines would be very brittle as well. it's quite possilble that one cracked on you, or a seal in either clutch cylinder as alex said. damn winters

replace ur master clutch cylinder, the exact same thing happened to me, no leaks no nothing, it had the exact fluid it needed, just the master stoped working, if replacing the master doesn't work, its a combination of ur slave, and make sure to bleed it before using it oh and if it doesn't work when u first install the new master, play with it a little, just wiggle it around while connected to ru clutch pedal

Remember if you replace the master you gotta replace the slave and line also (all hydraulics need to be replaced at the same time). Try bleeding the system first, you never know!

why do all hydraulics need to be changed at the same time... i replaced just the hose and it fixed this exact problem for me (upon inspection of the hose, it was cracked horribly)

Sometimes when the master is replaced the slave goes but this is not the case all the time, sometimes you can get away with it.

there may be impurities in the system that may ruin the seals in the new cylinder or there may be air in the line, you generally want to replace all the old when you put in the new so everything is new/ -alex

Same thing happened to me, my slave cylinder was shot and my master was clogged, the master to slave tube was **** too. your best bet, go to NOPI.com make an account and pick up a new master and slave cylinder for your car for like $56.(Mazdatrix rips you off for the same parts) then waltz on over to mazdatrix and buy a braided SS line to replace the stock rubber one, make sure to get it shipped priority mail(thatll be abouta little more than $22). if you do it all in the same day, it'll most likely get to you in about 3 days. It's an easy prject , and it is worth it. Refill, then bleed; and you'll have a nice hard clutch.

I had a similar problem. The clutch could not fully engage due to a lockup in the slave cyl. Disengaged fine, but would not engage properly. Replaced slave cyl and now we're back on the road.

I needed the following things to change my slave cyl.

3/8" drive ratchet
3/8" to 1/4" drive adapter
12mm Deep socket
3" 3/8" drive extension
Bench vice
1 1/2" adjustable wrench

No jacking required. If you stand on the driver's side of the car with the hood up, eyeball the firewall, and you'll see the slave cyl just rearward of the spark plugs. Follow the line back towards the dr side fender and you'll find the master cyl.

Well really I meant if you replace master or slave cylinder, you gotta change all three. But if you only have to change the hose then you should be fine. I didn't use the clearist wording (hey i was tired when I wrote that) !
