Where is they oil pressure sending unit?

My oil pressure maxes out whenever I turn on the ignition so I think I may have forgot to hook up the sending unit.

Where is it?

I have searched around and the only description I could find was “the mushroom looking thing near the spark plugs” but I am not seeing it. The FSM isn’t much help either.

Thanks,
Jason

It is almost directly below the oil filter pedistal. Brass if OEM and can't miss it.

Where is the electrical connection for it? I see the part, but no connector.

Should be on the wiring harness that runs right by it. Find the harness and just search up and down for it.

Wait, you say your opil pressure is maxxing out? If the sending unit isn't hooked up at all then your oil pressure should stay at 0 and never move.

There is a connector that clips on to the top of the sender, and there should also be another connector (both are yellow wires with red stripes) attached to a capacitor. The capacitor should be near the sender, bolted to one of the bolts that holds the engine and tranny together. If it comes disconnected from the capacitor, it will cause the gauge to go all the way to the top. (If i remember correctly. I was recently chastized by a member, who will remain nameless, for guessing instead of giving the exact correct answer and the exact page in the factory service manual.)

Thanks guys. I remember seeing a yellow/red wire with no connector on it flopping around in the engine bay. That must be it.

As far as the gauge maxing out when it is disconnected. I don't know why it does this. It states on page T-39 of the S5 FSM that 0 PSI of pressure is an open (resistance=infinity) where the resistance goes down as PSI increase (200ohm=30PSI, 110ohm=60PSI, and so forth).

When I measure the resistance of the wire at the cluster, it is 75ohms, which is consistent with the gauge reading I am getting.

wired. I'll do some more trouble shooting and see what I can find.
