What's up everyone, the compression on my engine 86 N/A is getting pretty low, so I was looking into getting a rebuild and the two places that seem to be pretty good are rx7 world.com and pineapple racing. Can you give me some opinions on which one I should go to, or if there is a better option please let me know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

oh sorry, I forgot to mention that I am on a budget, so I can only spend about $2500

 

I'd go with a mazda reman then, they usually come with new rotor housings...

 

Mazda reman on a budget? Good luck...I'm thinking they charged me closer to 4 grand when all was said and done.

 

So I guess a Mazda reman is out of the question, I haven't heard any good coments about them anyway. Has anyone had any experience with pineapple or rx7World? I also received a few good pm's so I will be checking into those as well. Again, I really appreciate it. I am not a total moron when it comes to my car, but I am not quite ready to undertake a rebuild yet.....will use my old engine for practice once a new one is in there. My main concern is that the engine I buy has new rotor housings. I know that is pretty much a necessity when it comes to a long engine life, but does having used rotors in there make a huge difference...never saw any info on that in any of the posts I have read.

---Do you really need a re-build that bad can it wait if you are on a budget? And the Cheapest way is to do it yourself of course, but the question is if you have the time and will to research, and do you have a way of getting aorund while doing the work. ---I am about to start my rebuild this week and I have done a lot of research. ---Today i got most of the tools.--- Doing it on an extra motor. I have heard a lot of things about having rebuilds done by shops in general, and I am NOT saying all shops do this, but in my case in my area Atkins is the only shop that can do it unless I want to drive several hours.--- And I have heard many bad things about them. ---The stuff they sell like the seals are good, but I have heard that people complain about their cars in my area. almost like a hit and miss thing with them. ---But regardless just get the new housings and rotors, because in the end unless you do this your rebuild will only last a little while. ---So just save the money until you can do it right, and also have extra money for complications.--- Oh yea and about the rotors get them replaced as well. ---You don't want worn rotors on new housings do you? I am going for the RX-8 high compression ones. ---You will regret it if you don't( the housings and rotor part not the RX-8 rotor part)---

 

i say spend you 2500 on a some porting and a full rebuilt kit and do it yourself.
just my opinion though.

 

We can get you rebuilt and ported, plus you will have money left over for some perfomance parts.

 

Thanks guys, I am checking all of the options you posted. I will be able to wait a little longer to rebuild, but will not be able to do it myself due to limited time and the fact that this is my dd. I'd say that rotaryresurrection is your best bet, especially since hes pretty close to you. Banzai racing does good work as well, and I've heard mixed stuff about pineapple, but mostly good. Pineapple's clear accross country, though, so shipping could be kinda pricey. I can't say I've heard anything about rx7world, though.

 

Yeah, I saw on the website of rx7World (in the reviews section) that "darthrotary", one of the names I've seen on the forum, bought on from there and had nothing bad to say. By the way, where is rotary ressurection located? I've seen his site, but I don't think I ever saw a location. What I am really hoping is that I can buy a rebuilt engine, new rotors and rotor housings etc. and still be able to keep my old one so that I can learn to do it myself, but I havent seen any places that do not require a core.

MAN if you only lived in cali i could get you a rebuild with new rotors and gaskets the the housings painted and your engine bay blasted for 1750 and they do a good job

 

That's not all that far, I'll email him.....yeah, I wish there was as much support for the rx7's here, it just doesn't seem like there are as many serious enthusiasts...it's only a small croud that is really into the more technical aspects of building up cars instead of putting neons and sound systems in there. I don't know if you've been down here but it's quite hilarious really. Even at autocross there are only like 20 cars there and it's mostly older people who want a hobby, just sad.

 

$2200 last time I check for the shortblock, out the door, uninstalled ofcourse. New rotor housings + all new seals/bearings, ie: full rebuild is more than that in parts alone...
